People sell the darndest things. Thanks to e-bay, anyone with internet access can hold a virtual garage-sale, dumping all the gee-gaws and gimcracks they disinter from heaps of closet rubbish.

Fortunately (?) for you and me, some fine folks have set up a website where some of the more hideous examples of would-be salesmanship are put up for public display. No longer will you need to spend valuable time searching for that Dean Martin Hand Puppet you've always wanted. Disturbing Auctions has already found it for you!

I, much like good folk everywhere, used to get a big kick out of a little TV show called MST3K (that's Mystery Science Theater 3000, for the uninitiated). The show's concept was great, and the writers came up with some of the funniest things I've ever seen on television.

So imagine my joy -- nay, my unparalleled delight -- to discover that the former writers of the show have banded together on a website full of hearty wisdom and good family entertainment: Timmy Big Hands.

Chock-full of wacky lowcore Flash games and silly graphics and humorous anecdotes, it's sure to bring you a chuckle.

Dr John Money is regarded by many as a hero. His pioneering research in the mid-20th century earned him a position as one of the foremost investigators of human sexuality. Without Dr Money's coining of terms such as 'gender role' and 'gender identity', where would we be?

Now, out of nowhere, some punk has decided to slander Dr Money via a libelous piece of so-called journalism in the form of a book entitled 'As Nature Made Him: the boy who was raised as a girl'.

Fortunately, not everyone is falling for this load of rubbish, as shown by this great article series by Jack Heidenry in The Position.

OK, here we go.

American Plonk is my first attempt at making what the kids these days are calling a 'blog'. Initially it will just be me posting, but maybe eventually some other mutants will join in.

So, without further ado, I present you with AOLiza. This is the hilarious result of combining AOL's Instant Messenger with the classic pseudo-AI program known to students of computing history as 'Eliza'.
